In Time Trailer starring Justin Timberlake

From the creator of Gattica.  A great trailer where time is the new currency.

3DS Price Dropped and Iwata's Salary Cut in 1/2

I know what you're thinking... "Man I should have waited on buying my 3DS!" At a meeting on the company's financial results Nintendo President Satoru Iwata explained the reason behind this drastic move. He said, "First, since the launch of Nintendo 3DS, one of the things we have learned is that it has taken longer than we had originally expected in order for the appeal of this product to widely spread." The other reason is creating loyalty with publishers and retailers. This is to ensure their software sales are optimized by the time christmas comes along.

"The retailers worldwide decide the allocations of store shelves and which products to focus on for the year-end sales season by looking at the results of the summer sales. Software publishers are currently reviewing which development teams will work on which projects, and the results of which shall be launched next year and beyond. Removing their concerns on the sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware will be very critical for us to be able to enrich the applicable software in the years to come."

Just months from it's launch the 3DS price from $249.99 will be lowered to $169.99. This is accompanied with top officials having pay cuts including Iwata. The pay cuts consist of representative directors down 30%, other directors 20%, and Iwata himself by 50%.

Nintendo does not want repeat the PS3 fiasco where after launch the enflamed hardware price hampered software sales. Balanced off with slow hardware sales to come along. Looks like Nintendo is gearing up to try and boost their upcoming first party software (specifically Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land).

Dead Space 2 Review

Title: Dead Space 2
Developer: Visceral Games
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Release Date: January 25, 2011
Rating: Mature
Platforms: PS3 | Xbox 360 | PC
Score: 9/10

In 2008 Isaac Clarke was an engineer on board the USG Kellion sent out to investigate a distress signal sent by the USG Ishimura during it's mining operation on the planet Aegis VII. Isaac and his fellow crew members quickly find out everyone was devoured and metamorphazised into killer necromorphs.  Isaac skillfuly destroyed the "Marker" a mysterious object responsible for creating the necromorph infestation.
He narrowally escaped.

Three years have passed and Isaac wakes up to chaos.  Awaken in a hospital on the "Sprawl" in Titan one of Saturn's moons.  You are quickly thrusted into survival mode while everyone in this metropolis is fighting the onslaught. The storyline starts out dynamically with Isaac actually having dialogue this time. He fights his inner demons while fighting the outer ones. This game is comparable to any high budget blockbuster movie.  Voice acting is well done. The pacing is well thought out and very fluid.  There are hardly if not at all any form of load times in between cut scenes or transitions within environments. There are puzzles involving zero gravity, hacking into electronic hardware, and your ability to use kenisis. Suspenseful and unnerving from the start. Seriously you do not get your first weapon for like an hour and there is shit getting wrecked by these monsters! Scarce inventory just adds to your worries. This game just never stops being scary and stressful throughout.

Isaac handles very well and is very responsive in the game as compared to the first installment. It's well needed when fighting off the crazy ass necromorphs.  There is also your handy standard issued military weapons and engineering tools turned weapons to help you. New weapons are introduced  such as the detonator and javelin.  The detonator mines explode once tripped and the javelin gun can either hang a necromorph on a wall or shot and have an electrical charge to destroy it. It is very fun and you seem very powerful at times with these weapons.  Impaling and dismembering necromorphs is enjoyable as ever. As much pain as you dish out there will be a plethora of necromorphs sending it back your way.  There are new additions to your enemy roster such as the pack and stalkers. The The pack are toddlers that come at you in big numbers.  They maybe weak but they unleash massive damage if they get a hold of you. The stalkers are very intelligent and very very fast.

The environments are varied and well executed. You go through shopping districts, apartments, nurseries, trains, and unitolgy churches. These places have great detail and depth to them. You see blood stains, fires, dead bodies, papers, chairs, and space equipment. The graphics are upgraded from the previous game.  This is accompanied with excellent sound.  There is this one scene where you're alone at a nursery and you hear babies moaning around you....... creeeeepy.

How great Dead Space 2 is there are still downsides to the game.  There are times when Isaac is tasked to do mundane objectives such as fix elevators, align solar arrays, and deactivate AI. Multiplayer is a bit bland. Four human teams are tasked to complete and objective and the necromorph players just need to stop them. Upgradeable appearance and weapons are the incentive. Just not a lot of depth to it. The negatives do not outweigh the positives in terms of replayability. Once finished you get to unlock 'New Game Plus' where you get to replay the story with your current inventory and modified weapons. There are even more upgradeable suits to be found. You also unlock 'Hard Core' mode that takes away your checkpoints and only lets you save three times during the entire campaign.

Dead Space 2 is not a giant leap from the first installment by not introducing anything new or innovative but what it did best in part one it is cranked up at full throttle for two.  It is a polished well made game that is sure to be fun for shooter and horror fans.

Here is a YouTube video created by GamerSpawn describing the influences movies had on the series.

Ron Artest Got Caught Sexting

Looks like Ron Artest aka "Metta World Peace" got bit with the sexting bug.  An anonymous female shared her sms convos and x rated multimedia pics with Deadspin. If this is true then poor Ron Ron it seems like his hormones got the better of him. Here is a snippet:

Ron: U ever been with a black guy?
Me: It would destroy me physically.
Ron: You like it?
Me: It would make me immobile.

Uncharted Comic-Con Panel 2011

We learned a few things regarding the epic franchise. The process of "Developing Interactive Entertainment" was showcased.  Elena Fisher was first envisioned as a latina named Elena Vargas.  A book called Drake's Journal accompanying the video game will be coming out this fall.  It's described as behind-the-scenes making of the franchise.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Trailer

The official trailer for The Walking Dead Season 2 has came out during the SDCC. Very exciting stuff to come in the series regardless if your familiar with the comic or not. For all my fellow comic heads did you notice when Rick said "to hell with the noise" Looks like gunfire will play a big big roll in attracting the dead.

Hershel Farm is going to be found.

Glenn is finally going to meet his love interest in Maggie and the TV counterpart is pretty hot. Props to Glenn's character ;) hahaha But my biggest observation is Tyreese being missed in the trailer.....in the comic Rick and the gang were supposed to run into Tyreese, his daughter, and her boyfriend on the way towards finding Hershel and his farm. I guess we'll have to wait and see.......is it October yet????

PS3's RLOD(Red Light of Death) and the YLOD(Yellow Light of Death) Fix

My good friend was in need of help with his ps3. He was inflicted with the RLOD or what is better known as the Red Light of Death. I'm pretty sure I knew how he felt when it occurred because this happened to me before also when I got the YLOD or better known as the Yellow Light of Death which we'll go more depth with later on. Where were we?.....oh yeah I bet while playing his kick ass game his favorite kick ass gaming system just shuts down on him without warning. He chalked it up to some kind of glitch? Maybe the game caused his ps3 to shut down? Nothing to worry about because you know what?? He'll just turn that kick ass system of a play station back on.

Power button pressed and here we go. Usual red light flashes and a few dings and then out of nowhere new ding sounds come on and the red light starts blinking in succession. Confusion sets in and he tries every option he can think of..unplug the power cord and plug it in, do a hard restart, do a soft restart, use the eject button, but it doesn't work. Helplessness and ANGER sets in!!!! AAARRRGGGHHH This is where I come in and provided a solution to his predicament. Before touching upon the solution let's talk about the reason and meaning behind these lights of death.

The reason why this occurs is because of an overheating issue. When the playstation is on there is a lot of heat build up especially around the motherboard. As a result the CPU and GPU chips would get so hot the solder would melt and lose contact with the motherboard. This is due to the ps3 not having no lead-free solder.

The difference between the RLOD(Red Light of Death) and the YLOD(Yellow Light of Death) is the chip connection. In the YLOD a green flashes then a yellow light followed by red blinking lights. This is when both the CPU and GPU lose their contacts. In the RLOD the red blinking light shows and this means only one chip has lost their contact. This system was developed by Sony to help identify customer issues.

There are a few troubleshooting tips you can go through when first encountered with this issue.
  • check vents for dust and any kind of obstruction
  • have the ps3 standing up instead of laying flat because when flat the fan blows upward towards the motherboard
  • remove the hard drive and insert it
  • unplug the system and leave it alone for 30min and plug it back in

You have options if you keep getting the lights of death. If you are still covered under the manufacturer's warranty you can send the system out to get fixed. The only fee incurred is the shipping. If you are out of warranty you can still send it out to Sony but you will be billed for the fix which usually costs 150 dollars. Both processes takes 4-6 weeks for completion. Your last option is to fix your playstation which can take up to 1 to 2 hours and I am going to show you how through a step by step process. Before I start I would like to point out I am not responsible for any negative results that would occur due to my instructional fix. This is for the 60gig launch model and later model's components are arranged differently but relatively have the same components.

What You Need
-10 point torx screwdriver
-philips screwdriver
-precision screwdriver
-thermal compound preferably Arctic Silver 5
-flux fluid
-heat gun
-tissue or paper towels
-70% to 90% rubbing alcohol

Before I start I would like to point out that this is going to be a very very dusty unit. If you see dust of any kind CLEAN IT! Remove the plastic plate covering the hard drive. Unscrew the blue screw. Pull the rubber tab up top and use the torx screwdriver to remove the screw within.

Remove the hard drive by sliding it towards the right and pull.

Slide the top of the ps3 towards the section where you took the torx screw from. What you uncover is your 1st set of screws to detach. All of them are the same size except for 3 peices. I would use a sticker or chalk to mark where those three came from.

Pull the top and be careful not to pull too hard because there is a drive cable attached to the top part.

To detach simply flip the black tab upwards.

Next lift the blue ray drive but be careful because there is also a drive cable attached to it. Just unclip this tab also.

We detach the power supply. This one is a bit more diffucult because of the extra screws and cables. This will be your 2nd set of screws to remove. I advise to keep the sets of screws separate from the first and the following. Just remove the screws marked with an arrow on them just like the top plate you removed earlier. There are also 5 cables to remove and I marked them in the picture. 1st is the disc detection sensor.

2nd and 3rd

4th is the ground and is the only one with a washer. 5th is a data cable.

Next remove the eject circuit board switch and its data cable.

Next is your 3rd set of screws to remove. There are 2 small screws in this set. I would mark them with chalk or stickers for identification. Once that's finished just remove from plastic bottom.

Flip the unit and there is the battery cable to detach and the screws housing the hard drive. Remove the plastic housing in the rear. They are held by tabs.

Remove the clamp screws and once that's removed detach the metal plate.

Remove the fan and remove the metal plate.

Now use the alcohol and tissue to clean the thermal compound off the 2 silver cards and off of the fan.

Thoroughly clean them. Once finished apply the flux fluid around the black chips, cell, and rsx chip. Let it settle for 15min.

VERY IMPORTANT TO LEAVE THE BOARD AS FLAT AS POSSIBLE AND DO NOT MOVE THE BOARD AT ALL DURING THIS PROCESS! If you move the board during this process the components would shift and mess everything up. There are 3 stages of the heat gun process. 1st use the heat gun around 500 degrees and use circular motions as you pass the board. Focus on the black chips close to the rsx and cell chips for 30 second intervals each chip. Spend 5 minutes with your first pass throough. 2nd use around 800 plus degrees and focus around 30 seconds on each chip and 5 minutes with this pass through. 3rd go back down to the 500 degree mark and repeat the same process as you did with the first all while going with the circular motions. Let it cool down for 30 min. DO NOT MOVE THE BOARD AT ALL!
Now you can apply the thermal compound on the rsx and cell chip. Assemble everything by backtracking your steps with the assembly process. You have the sets of screws, reference points, and images to work with. Once its all said and done you should have the following result:
